About The Awards
Outstanding Performance in Teaching
The President’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Teaching was established to recognise and reward excellence in teaching and to emphasise the University’s commitment to fostering teaching innovation and excellence, enhancing student learning and providing teaching scholarships. Both individual staff members and teams at the institutional level are eligible for the award.
The nominees were considered by a selection panel chaired by Professor Stephen CHEUNG Yan-leung, President. The other panel members comprised Professor Chetwyn CHAN Che-hin (lay Council member), Professor LEUNG Mei-yee (external member from a higher education institution), Professor John LEE Chi-kin, Vice President (Academic), Professor Eric YU Kwan-wai and Dr TSE Ka-ho (two representatives elected by and from the Academic Board), Professor LIM Cher-ping, Professor WOO Chi-keung and Dr Stella KONG Wai-yu (three Faculty Deans/their nominees), Dr Savio WONG Wai-ho (recipient of the previous year’s President’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Teaching) and Ms Mandy WONG Sin-man (student representative on the Academic Board, invited by the President).
The panel members conducted a rigorous selection process comprising both textual scrutiny and interviews with the nominees. The following assessment criteria were used:
- Adoption of learner-centred approaches, ability to engage/inspire/ impact on students and demonstration of superior classroom acumen;
- Course/programme/curriculum design reflecting a command of the field; and
- Past/present achievement(s) and leadership in teaching and potential scholarly contribution to and impact on the development of effective teaching practice within the University and/or in other institutions.
