Dr TSANG Yiu-fai

Dr Tsang Yiu Fai’s research interests focus on water and wastewater treatment, resource recovery from organic waste, pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) in sewage treatment plants, and microbial CO2 fixation.
In the past three years, Dr Tsang successfully secured seven external and 13 internal research projects in the capacity of Principal Investigator, for a total funding of over HK$5 million. He received one Early Career Scheme (ECS) project in 2015 and one General Research Fund (GRF) project in 2016/17 from the Research Grants Council (RGC). He has published 47 articles in international refereed journals, 37 of which were published in 2017/18 alone. Almost 35% of his publications are in the top 5% of journals, and 55% are in the top 10% of journals, including Bioresource Technology, Chemical Engineering Journal, Energy Conversion and Management, and Green Chemistry.
Dr Tsang has been actively involved in research and scholarly work in the field of environmental engineering. He currently serves on the editorial board of eight SCI-/SSCI-listed journals. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Energy & Environment, Associate Editor of Water Environment Research and RSC Advances, Subject Editor of Process Safety and Environmental Protection, and Editorial Board Member of Chemical Engineering Journal. He has also served as the Lead Guest Editor of four special issues in renowned journals, including Journal of Environmental Management, Clean Technologies and Environmental Policy, and Biodegradation.
Dr Tsang is highly devoted to knowledge transfer and professional service. He is the Chair of The 3rd International Conference on Biological Waste as Resource 2018 (BWR2018) and has been invited to serve on the organizing/scientific committees for 13 international conferences in China, Hong Kong, Korea, Sri Lanka, UAE, the UK and the USA. He has successfully secured over HK$1 million for applied research projects from industry and the Water Supplies Department, which benefit and advance environmental engineering and environmental/STEM education. He served on National Science Foundation Review Panel of the Partnerships for Innovation Programme in 2017 and has been appointed Advisory Committee Member of the Fung Yuen Butterfly Reserve, and Consultant Committee Member of the Hong Kong STEM Academy.
