Dr YEUNG Chi-ho
楊志豪博士
Assistant Professor, Department of Science and Environmental Studies

Dr Bill Yeung Chi Ho is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Science and Environmental Studies. He has a passion for teaching science, and has introduced minds-on, hands-on and hearts-on learning activities to nurture students’ interest. In his lessons, Dr Yeung uses video clips from action movies and science fiction to illustrate abstract science concepts and stimulate discussion. He also introduces experiments conducted with objects such as toys or model MTR trains to help students construct their own science knowledge. These hands-on and minds-on activities help make science interesting and relevant to students.

In addition to fostering interest in, and the relevance of, science, Dr Yeung has integrated STEM educational approaches in his lessons, to build the confidence, motivation and capability of students in learning science. He utilizes various educational tools to design hands-on activities, and to encourage students to integrate multi-disciplinary knowledge and apply it. These modules serve as examples for teachers to implement STEM education in their classrooms, contributing to the development of STEM education in Hong Kong. Dr Yeung also provides various opportunities for students to learn science through teaching it, helping students become active learners by designing teaching materials and experiments, and developing a passion for science .

In addition to nurturing undergraduate students, Dr Yeung is committed to training in-service primary and secondary school teachers in professional development programmes. In these courses, he has introduced the most up-to-date pedagogical tools for in-service teachers, including simulated science experiments, visualization tools, such as virtual reality and 3D printing, and the application of coding and micro-controllers for scientific inquiry. He has organized many other workshops and seminars, sharing his ideas and expertise with his colleagues and teachers. Dr Yeung has also actively participated in joint-university projects to promote and enhance innovative teaching practices, thus contributing to the development of teaching and learning at EdUHK, local schools and other universities.
