Dr. PEI Qing

Dr Pei Qing is a human and environmental geographer, who investigates climate change and social responses.

As Principal Investigator, Dr Pei secured Early Career Scheme (ECS) funding from the Research Grants Council in 2017/2018. He has published 17 articles in international refereed journals in the past three years, more than 50% of them in the top 10% of journals in the SSCI/SCI and SJR international databases. In 2018, he was granted a national technical patent on the mitigation of climate change, as the sole inventor.

Dr Pei has taken a number of leadership positions worldwide. He is one of four project leaders in the Past Global Changes (PAGES) scheme, which is financially supported by the Swiss Academy of Sciences Foundation and the US National Science Foundation. Dr Pei’s PAGES Group has been invited to include its findings in the upcoming Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Report. He was appointed a Carson Fellow at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, named after internationally renowned American biologist Rachel Carson; Fellow of the Global Labor Organization; Core Member of Environmental Humanities AG in the Swiss National Academic of Art and Science; and Core Member of Environmental Humanities Switzerland.

In addition to his research activities, Dr Pei has been devoted to giving back to the University and society. He has been awarded two grants from the Ministry of Education of China, one grant from the Croucher Foundation, and two grants from the Tin Ka Ping Foundation to greatly enhance the University’s research exchanges, which have benefited our students. He has been invited to give lectures at local, Mainland and international universities, like the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Fudan University and Princeton University. He has also been interviewed by newspapers to disseminate his research findings to the public.
