Team Award
Integrated Centre for Wellbeing (I-WELL)
The Integrated Centre for Wellbeing (I-WELL) was established by the Faculty of Education and Human Development at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) in 2016. Through integrating excellent research findings into professional clinical services, the I-WELL Centre has enabled a happy childhood for students with special educational needs (SEN).
Over the past two years, under the leadership of a strong team of academics, the I-WELL team successfully secured internal and external funding for research and research-related projects. The I-WELL team also conducted 20 workshops and seminars for more than 1,000 teachers, social workers, therapists and researchers, and gave eight occupational therapy support groups and workshops to schools and NGOs, benefiting over 300 participants.
In addition to transferring University-owned knowledge to society through outstanding projects and activities, the Centre has been working on various projects with evidence-based techniques to support SEN children and cater for the needs of the SEN community. One of the projects, titled Development of an Executive Functioning Training Manual Using Play-based Learning and Assessment Tools for Students with ADHD – AR Mobile App Version, won the silver medal at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva in April 2018.
The intellectual property (IP) that was developed, i.e. an Executive Function Manual and AR mobile apps, will be submitted for copyright with the EdUHK trademark. The Manual will be adopted for student fieldwork practice in both normal schools and special schools. Big data generated from the apps will be used for further research and development with other universities. The University recently completed a licensing negotiation of the IP developed in the above project with a company.
I-WELL has demonstrated the transfer of innovative knowledge developed at the University from the research stage to the community, where it has had a positive impact on people’s lives.
