Dr WANG Hui
王慧博士
Assistant Professor, Department of Special Education and Counselling
Dr Wang specializes in teacher motivation, emotions, and emotion regulation, as well as the ways
in which teachers engage with their students in the classroom. Her research works address
pressing societal issues, including students' sense of belonging, identity development, and
teacher well-being, burnout and attrition, which are currently significant challenges not only
in Hong Kong but also globally. As Principal Investigator, Dr Wang obtained one Public Policy
Research (PPR) grant, one Early Career Scheme (ECS) grant, and one international collaborative
grant funded by the WYNG Foundation, all in 2022. Dr Wang also published 14 journal articles and
two book chapters in the past three years, and she was the lead author for 12 of them. Her
articles have been featured in top-tier journals, such as Educational Psychology Review,
Contemporary Educational Psychology, and the Journal of School Psychology.
Dr Wang has established numerous regional and international research collaborations with
universities, including Beijing Normal University (mainland China), National Tsing Hua
University (Taiwan), Michigan State University (USA), University of York (UK), and McGill
University (Canada). These partnerships have led to research exchanges, visits, joint data
collections, and successful grant co-applications. For example, Dr Wang is one of two
co-investigators in a project that received a grant from the Economic and Social Research
Council of the UK that exceeds HK$6 million.
Within the institution, Dr Wang actively promotes collaborative research. She is an affiliated
researcher at the Integrated Centre for Wellbeing (I-WELL), a member of an intra-departmental
research cluster, and a collaborative researcher with the Analytic\Assessment Research Centre
(ARC). Furthermore, she has co-supervised an internal research project funded by the Central
Reserve Allocation Committee, working alongside colleagues from Peking University to advance
technology-enabled education and enhance educational equity, quality and efficiency.
