Dr HUNG Keung
洪強博士
Associate Professor, Department of Cultural and Creative Arts

Dr HUNG Keung is an internationally renowned digital media artist and researcher, whose exceptional creativity has given rise to developing patentable knowledge transfer projects that have significantly impacted the community.

After his first project on exhibit, Interactive Chinese Characters as a New Learning Method, won the Silver Medal at the 2018 International Trade Fair “Ideas - Inventions - New Products” (iENA) in Germany, he further enhanced it by developing a multi-sensory learning kit, which was designed to overcome visual and social-learning barriers, especially for people with visual impairment and special needs. His Novel Interactive and Audible 3D Chinese Characters, integrated with audible recordings, allows users to experience the structural formation of Chinese characters and appreciate the beauty of traditional Chinese calligraphy while touching and feeling the strokes and structures of the audio-tactile characters.

In 2021, his Portable Interactive Meditation Mirror (PIMM) earned EdUHK its first Gold Medal at The Invention Geneva Evaluation Days. The PIMM series is a novel, user-orientated, experiential and participatory installation project that provides users with a new experience in meditation learning and practice in a playful and light-hearted way. By combining creativity, art and technology into a problem-solving device, Dr HUNG has enhanced the quality of life of urban dwellers in a most resourceful way, and his accomplishment is highly appreciated by the global art community.

In addition to these two patented works, his projects reach tens of thousands of people on a daily basis through exhibitions, social media, newspapers, TV interviews and more, in locations like the Tsim Sha Tsui harbour area (one of the most popular tourist spots in Hong Kong), the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Hong Kong Palace Museum, the Guangdong Art Museum, and the 5th Tengyun Summit, held in Beijing in 2020.

With public displays of his works locally, regionally and globally, the maturity of Dr HUNG’s innovations is widely appreciated for thoroughly demonstrating the transfer of the University’s innovative knowledge from research to the community, contributing to advances in art and technology through sustainable and creative collaboration.
