Dr YAN Zi

Dr YAN Zi’s research interests lie in educational assessment, Rasch measurement, and teacher education.
An active and promising researcher, Dr Yan secured more than HK$2 million in research funding for three General Research Grant (GRF) projects and one Quality Education Fund (QEF) project as Principal Investigator in the past three years. During the same period, Dr Yan built an impressive research profile of 17 published journal articles, six book chapters and three scholarly books. Some of his articles were published in SJR 2020 top five per cent journals, including Assessment & Evaluation in Higher Education and Assessment in Education: Principles, Policy & Practice. Dr Yan’s work has helped reshape the research landscape in assessment and assessment culture in classrooms.
Dr Yan is also committed to the academic field. He was appointed Honorary Associate Professor in the Centre for Research in Assessment and Digital Learning (CRADLE), a world-leading research centre in assessment, at Deakin University. He was also the Deputy Chair of the Pacific Rim Objective Measurement Society (PROMS). Dr Yan has been involved in various key editing roles for high-quality research, including associate editor for Frontiers in Education (Assessment, Testing and Applied Measurement Section), consulting editor for Educational Psychology, and assistant editor for Studies in Educational Evaluation.
Within the EdUHK community, Dr Yan has been devoted to collegial research initiatives. He took a leading role in the Faculty Key Research Area (KRA), titled “Assessment Research into Enhancing Learning and Teaching”, on a team of colleagues and postgraduate students from three departments and two strategic partners. Dr Yan is also keen on nurturing future talent. He has supervised one postdoctoral fellow, three PhD students and four EdD students as Principal Supervisor. Two of his students were awardees of the One Belt One Road PhD scholarship and the RGC Postdoctoral Fellowship.
